Doing It!

Sometimes, it’s really nice to run across things that “research shows” contributes to student success – and realize that we’re already doing it.

Check out this article that will encourage you and give you some small, actionable things to make your online classes even better.

Why Online Courses Should Have Less Students

Missed the Content Day Hype?

No worries! This is what we were doing on Thursday – come join us any time!

Remember, the mission of CASC is to provide affordable, ACCESSIBLE, and exceptional education that fosters student success. We’re definitely focusing on the accessible part!

Check out this resource for more info on how to use the embedded tools in Blackboard to see and raise your accessibility score for your course and for your students.

Content Day Competition!!

On October 3, 2024, Anthology will host its annual Fix Your Content Day contest. As part of our campus-wide commitment to inclusive education, we will be participating using Anthology® Ally capabilities. For 24 hours, we’ll be on a mission to fix as many accessibility issues in course files as we can. At the end of the day, the campus with the most files improved will be recognized and awarded a prize.

How can you help? Begin reviewing your courses and identifying those with red and orange indicators. Then, on October 3, start improving as many files as possible using those indicators as a guide. Focus on images that need a description and Microsoft® Word documents to start. Aim for 100%, but improvement is what counts!

For more information on how to fix files using Anthology Ally, check out this video.

Anthology will be keeping track of the institution with the most fixes – let’s show them what CASC Online can do!!

Those who register for either the synchronous or asynchronous option will have the opportunity to complete a follow-up assessment and earn a digital badge!

Please register using one of the following links:

How To Make Discussion Boards Less Painful

Discussion boards in online courses are probably one of the most misunderstood and potential-filled tools that exist in the online world. This misunderstanding leads to a lack-luster and obligatory use, which nobody enjoys or finds value in. The potential of discussion boards, though, lie in recognizing what they’re for.

They aren’t meant to take the place of in-class, live discussion. Nothing can replace that. But they are meant to provide a space for student-student interaction, student-instructor interaction, and discovery by all involved.

Here’s an awesome (short) video with some tips, if you’re wanting to make your discussion boards more awesome and less painful.
